of High Performance Sport, University of Murcia, Spain.

By helping people to reach physical and mental balance, HolisFiit contributes to
enhanced body-mind capacities. Daily supplementation led to a 43% improvement
in the Athens Insomnia Scale score: a significant increase in overall sleep quality
through a facilitation of falling asleep and a significant increase in total sleep
duration.

These improvements in sleep markers impacted the feeling of well-being in the daytime:
in association with a 67% improvement in well-being, subjects in the HolisFiit
group experienced an 80% increase in functioning capacity during the day.

Subjects supplemented with HolisFiit reported a significantly higher overall feeling of
vitality compared to the placebo group. General physical health perception
increased by 10% with HolisFiit, based on questions from the validated SF-36 health
questionnaire.

Moreover, in the lean-to-fat mass ratio, body composition significantly rebalanced
by 7.4%, signifying an improved body tone for the HolisFiit-supplemented group.

BLIS K12 Found to Provide Protection Against Strep Throat and Acute Otitis Media in Young Children with No Prior History of Infections

Blis Technologies and Stratum Nutrition announce the results of a new clinical study in children reporting the beneficial effects of the oral-cavity probiotic, BLIS K12™ (Streptococcus salivarius K12), on reducing the occurrences of streptococcal pharyngo-tonsillitis (PT) and acute otitis media (AOM) in young children with no previous history of either condition. This study was recently published in theEuropean Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences and supports the existing body of clinical research showing the benefits of BLIS K12 for reducing streptococcal PT and AOM in children, as well as streptococcal PT in adults already predisposed to recurring episodes of these conditions.

This clinical trial was conducted by Di Pierro et al (Milan, Italy) on 222 otherwise healthy male and female ethnically diverse children around the age of 3 years. Children were randomized into 2 demographically equivalent groups (n=111 per group), with one group given BLIS K12 probiotic (1 slow-dissolving tablet daily), while the other group served as the untreated control. The BLIS K12 probiotic was administered for 6 months with an additional 3-month follow-up in a sub-population (n=29/group).

At the end of the 6-month intervention period, the investigators reported the number of children diagnosed with streptococcal PT and AOM, in the control group was 54 (49%) and 89 (80%) respectively, compared to 18 (16%; P<0.01) and 49 (44%; P<0.01) in the BLIS K12 probiotic group. The total number of episodes (including recurrent cases during the study period) of PT and AOM was significantly lower (P<0.01) in the BLIS K12 group (21, 53) compared to control (67, 101) respectively.

New clinical trial results: cognitive benefits following INSEA2® intake

Rimouski (Quebec), February 20, 2017 – innoVactiv, a Canadian company dedicated to the development of science-based specialty ingredients, is pleased to report that InSea2® produced statistically significant positive results on cognition in a recently completed human clinical trial conducted by the Brain, Performance and Nutrition Research Center of Northumbria University (UK).
In previous human studies, InSea2® has shown to optimize carbohydrate absorption and assimilation by slowing down the activity of digestive enzymes alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase. InSea2® thus reduces the fluctuations in blood sugar induced by dietary carbohydrates, while reducing insulin levels and improving surrogate markers of insulin sensitivity. Although the brain relies on glucose for energy production, its optimal functioning is affected when blood glucose levels fluctuate up and down after a high-carb meal. Several studies have shown that attention, cognition, and even driving can be impaired after a meal due to occurrence of postprandial hypoglycemia or to amino acid imbalances in the brain’s chemistry that induce sleepiness. Therefore, this trial aimed to evaluate if the well-demonstrated glucose-stabilizing effects of InSea2® could help optimize brain function after a high-carb meal.

The present randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involved 60 healthy male and female subjects. On study day, each volunteer underwent baseline cognitive tests to measure Attention, Performance and Error rate using the Computerised Mental Performance Assessment System (COMPASS). Subjects then took 500 mg of InSea2® before eating a high-carb meal. Cognitive tests were repeated every 40 minutes over a 3 hour and 10 minute period. Results showed statistically-significant improvements in cognitive function, such as increased accuracy on Digit Vigilance and Choice Reaction tests. The InSea2®-treated subjects were also significantly less likely to make errors in repetitive, computer tasks. In line with its blood-glucose optimizing effects, these significant cognitive benefits have been noticed following a single intake of InSea2®, and no side effects were reported.

Valensa Launches Chia Gold® Stabilized Chia Seed Oil in EU after Novel Foods Approval

The company gained Novel Food approval for the ingredient via a substantial equivalence opinion in September of last year.
