PLT Health Solutions to Offer Collactive Collagen Complex to US Market

Marine-based collagen offers clinically-studied anti-aging, hydration & wrinkle reduction for supplement, beverage and functional food products

Morristown, NJ  – PLT Health Solutions, Inc. announced that it has begun marketing Collactive™ Collagen Complex in the United States. Collactive is a 100% marine-based, all-natural ingredient composed of collagen and elastin peptides formulated in the same ratio found naturally in human skin. Collactive combines the two main constituents of the skin’s extracellular matrix and has an anti-wrinkle synergic action: elastin fibers give the dermis suppleness that complements collagen fibers tensile strength. A study on Collactive showed a synergistic anti-wrinkle action, stimulating skin to lift and tone sagging areas and minimize lines and wrinkles, while increasing skin’s ability to retain moisture. With a low molecular weight, Collactive is also water-soluble and fully digestible, making it an ideal anti-aging ingredient for a wide variety of beauty-from-within formulations. The ingredient is manufactured by Copalis, representing a cooperative of fisheries in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France – Europe’s leading port for fish processing. Collactive is fully traceable and sustainably produced.

According to Seth Flowerman, Executive Vice President at PLT Health Solutions, the proprietary formulation with multiple complementary mechanisms coupled with its solubility and low effective dose make Collactive an ideal ingredient for the growing beauty-from-within consumer market in the United States. “A recent market report showed a growth rate for ‘nutricosmetics’ of over 11% – with a very strong showing by collagen and ready-to-drink beverages that focus on beauty-from-within. Collactive is an ideal ingredient for skin care – or beauty-from-within – because it is great for a broad range of consumer product applications,” he said. “Collactive has been demonstrated effective at a 2-gram use level which compares favorably to other collagen ingredients that are recommended at 5- to 10-gram levels. Add the excellent sustainability and traceability profile of Collactive and this is an ingredient that will be highly attractive to consumers seeking innovative approaches to natural skin-care,” he added.

Innovation Creates a Distinct Ingredient for Skin Care

Collactive is extracted solvent-free from fish skin collected daily from 100% wild caught fish. The proprietary process creates a fine powder composed of 94% Type I hydrolyzed collagen and 6% elastin oligopeptides – the same ratio found in human skin. The ingredient has a very low molecular weight – allowing it to be fully digested and enhancing bioefficacy. With a mild-taste profile and high solubility, Collactive can be easily incorporated into a broad range of supplement, beverage and functional food products – including clear and ready-to-drink beverages.

Reducing wrinkles and reinforcing skin hydration

Researchers used a Skin Image Analyzer® (S.I.A.) (Monaderm, Monaco) to measure the number and depth of wrinkles in a clinical study involving 44 women over 40 years old. Questionnaires were used throughout the clinical study and showed excellent tolerance to Collactive.

In the same study, after 28 days, Collactive supplementation resulted in a significant decrease (19%) of the number of deep wrinkles in 71% of the subjects. The level was stabilized at day 84. In the placebo group, an increase in the number of deep wrinkles was noted at both day 28 and day 84. Collactive also improved the skin’s ability to retain moisture with an increase of the entire epidermis hydration (+8%).

First Evidence of NEM’s Chondroprotective Effects Published

Stratum Nutrition in collaboration with the Traditional & Biomedical Research Center within Daejeon University and Ju Yeong NS Co., Ltd., is pleased to announce a new research study on NEM® brand eggshell membrane has been published. The study further validates NEM’s mechanism of action and reveals exciting insights on NEM’s ability to support joint health.

Researchers evaluated three doses of NEM (including the human equivalent dose of 52 mg/kg) in a rat model.  As in prior research, NEM again demonstrated powerful support for a healthy inflammatory response.  And, for the first time, chondroprotective effects were revealed from NEM treatment.  NEM was found to help maintain cartilage structure.  Importantly, the demonstrated chondroprotective effects were validated through histology, wherein a blinded pathologist evaluated cartilage thickness and joint space width both microscopically and via micro CT scan.  The results of this study were published in the August issue of the Journal of Nutrition and Health.

“The Korean researchers did a wonderful job of demonstrating the myriad benefits that NEM offers.  We are particularly excited about the chondroprotective effects shown with NEM and we have filed patent applications internationally surrounding this use for eggshell membrane,” commented Dr. Kevin J. Ruff, Sr. Director of Scientific & Regulatory Affairs for Stratum Nutrition which distributes NEM globally.

This study, along with additional published studies, show further substantiation for NEM® supporting a healthy inflammatory response.  For more information on this new published data, please contact Dr. Kevin Ruff at kruff@esmingredients.com.

Sabinsa Victorious in Litigation against Nutribiolink For Curcumin C3 Complex Patent Infringement

East Windsor, N.J. – Sabinsa Corporation, the world leader in Curcumin for the dietary supplements industry, has successfully concluded a lawsuit against NutriBioLink LLC, filed in the US District Court, New Jersey on July 30, 2014.

The lawsuit alleged that NutriBioLink and Olive Lifesciences Private Limited were selling and distributing products that infringed upon Sabinsa’s Curcumin C3 Complex® US Patent 5,861,415 (“the ’415 Patent”), which protects compositions, methods of use, and methods of extraction of a nutritional supplement in the US. Specifically, other companies may not sell imitations of Sabinsa’s unique compositions, nor market it for its antioxidant use, nor use the extraction method developed by Sabinsa and outlined in Sabinsa’s patent.

NutraBioLink has agreed to discontinue any and all future sales of Curcumin to outside distribution. The proposed Final Consent Judgment stipulates that the ’415 Patent is valid, enforceable, and properly issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

“We are pleased that once again the courts have reaffirmed that our ‘415 Patent is valid and enforceable,” said Sabinsa Founder Dr. Muhammed Majeed.  “Given how many times we have challenged IP infringing companies and how many times we have prevailed, one would hope companies considering theft of Sabinsa’s Intellectual Property would ultimately decide to develop their own instead.”

Previously, lawsuits filed against Prakruthi Products Private Limited and HerbaKraft Inc., for Sabinsa’s ‘415 patent, were successfully resolved in Sabinsa’s favor.

“Again, we have seen another accused infringer recognize the legitimacy of Sabinsa’s intellectual property,” said James H. Hulme, Partner, Arent Fox LLP, the attorney who represents Sabinsa in IP infringement matters.   “Sabinsa has made a substantial investment in its intellectual property over the years as a pre-eminent, science-based company. Those in the industry should realize that they cannot get a free ride on the efforts and success of Sabinsa in its science-based products because Sabinsa has demonstrated that it will aggressively protect its investment within the full bounds of the law.”

Curcumin C3 Complex® is a Registered Trademark and Patented product of Sabinsa Corp., and is protected under U.S. Patent No. 5,861,415, and International Patents and Patents Pending. The name C3 Complex was chosen to represent the ingredient’s three main chemical compounds: Curcumin, Demethoxycurcumin & Bisdemethoxycurcumin, collectively known as Curcuminoids. Curcumin C3 Complex® is a specific mixture of Curcuminoids, making it a unique form of Curcumin quite different from generic Curcumin extracts. It has been used in more clinical studies than any other Curcumin ingredient in the world. For more information, visit www.sabinsa.com  and  www.curcuminoids.com.
