Bergstrom Nutrition, manufacturers of OptiMSM®, today announced that its trademarked MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) has undergone thorough testing and audit and is officially registered with Informed-Sport® and Informed-Choice® to be free of banned substances.“Achieving the Informed-Sport designation supports our commitment to the sports segment,” said Jane Duvauchelle, sales director at Bergstrom Nutrition. “The designation provides our brand partners with additional assurance that OptiMSM is of the utmost purity, and a safe choice for competitive athletes.”
Bergstrom Nutrition has conducted research focused on exercise models that demonstrate OptiMSM’s ability to reduce oxidative stress and pain associated with physical training. There is growing market demand for the use of OptiMSM in athletic performance and sports nutrition products. OptiMSM is the only MSM that is designated as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the FDA, and is approved for use in a wide variety of products, including supplements, nutrition bars and beverages.
Informed-Sport and Informed-Choice are globally recognized quality-assurance programs that certify that specific lots of food supplements and ingredients are free of banned substances found on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List, as well as lists from organizations such as the NFL, NCAA, and MLB. The standard supplement-screening test covers 146 substances that are prohibited in sport.
Bergstrom Nutrition’s exclusive European distributor, Gee Lawson Ltd. will be the first to offer OptiMSM with the Informed-Sports certification to its customers this summer.
